Maggie celebrated her one year anniversary with us on December 4th. She is such a hit with our friends and neighbors! A friend of ours sent Maggie a Christmas Hat in the mail (see picture below) and our neighbors across the street gave her a Christmas sweater. The neighbors down the block actually drove to our house on Christmas day (the weather was rainy and cold) and brought Maggie a plush toy for Christmas. We gave Maggie her own pet "squirrel" plush toy from the American Kennel Club since she loves to chase them in our yard!
Dave was diagnosed with diabetes in August, and Maggie has been closer than ever to him. She's like a little nursemaid - always by his side to check on him. The diabetes caused problems in Dave's feet and legs to the point where he was unable to walk Maggie, so I took her for walks. He's been using The ReBuilder (a footbath treatment that we found online - they have since gone to a waterless treatment) every night since we got it on 10/27, and it has been a tremendous help to him. He still doesn't tolerate standing on his feet for too long, but he can take Maggie on walks again. She's been the best "therapy" for him, though.
Maggie had a "doctor's" visit for her annual checkup and the vet was quite impressed with how beautiful and healthy she is. We are feeding her a combination of regular and light Science Diet dog food. She likes the IAMS Weight Control dog biscuits, too. We are giving Maggie a little more freedom now at night. She can choose if she wants to sleep in her crate with the door open, or on her bed on the floor, or on our bed. She does all three, depending on her mood! We still keep her crated when both of us are gone from the house. She's such a nosey dog, though! She's got to see what you bought at the grocery store or what you're cooking for dinner. When we bring food to the dinner table, her nose is in the air, just sniffing to see what we're having for dinner.
When the man was here to install our dishwasher, Maggie was close by and watching his every move. Anytime I open something that has plastic wrap on it, she runs in the kitchen to see what it is. I guess she thinks it's for her. Maggie, the Spoiled Border Collie… what would we do without her. Nancy & Dave & Maggie, of course! |
